Samarkand conference: reclaiming rights, human dignity and justice
Samarkand hosts the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The event, themed “Reclaiming human rights, justice and dignity for all in turbulent times”, brings together 250 young parliamentarians from nearly 60 countries, along with representatives of 11 international organizations.
Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva highlighted that Uzbekistan’s focus on increasing youth participation and protecting their rights has been recognized by foreign parliament members. Specifically, the revised Constitution, the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy, and other strategic frameworks prioritize young people’s interests.
Nuriddinjon Ismailov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, emphasized the significance of addressing youth issues. As the President noted, the most effective way to empower young people is through their active involvement in decision-making. Consequently, institutions dedicated to engaging with youth have been integrated into parliamentary work.
Tulia Ackson, IPU President, highlighted the growing importance of young people’s voices in global decision-making. She emphasized that dialogue, sharing experiences, and collaboration among young parliamentarians worldwide play crucial roles in developing new strategies to tackle current global issues.
During the Global Conference, participants are engaging in discussions on key topics such as human rights, youth political participation, social justice, digital security, education, decent work, young women’s political engagement, and the role of parliaments in tackling global issues.
During the dialogue, participants share their perspectives and initiatives on urgent issues, exchange experiences on safeguarding human rights and dignity, and discuss ways to reinforce peace and justice while working towards sustainable development.
Following the event, a document listing the proposals and initiatives of young parliamentarians will be adopted.
