Projects with IWMI
International cooperation in water diplomacy, gender policy in the water sector, and water-saving technologies yield effective results.
The importance of activities in digitalization, personnel training, and the development of scientific fields is high.
It has been 25 years since the establishment of partnership relations between Uzbekistan and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI).
Minister of Water Resources Shavkat Khamrayev met with IWMI Director General Mark Smith, who arrived in Uzbekistan. The parties exchanged views on issues of cooperation and the implementation of joint projects.
Last year, on November 16, at the Seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia held in Tashkent, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, taking into account the growing shortage of water in the region, proposed declaring 2026-2036 the Decade of Practical Actions for the Rational Use of Water Resources in Central Asia.
This year, in April, at the regular Meeting of the Council of Heads of Founding States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) in Astana, the President of Uzbekistan expressed hope for support for initiatives aimed at carrying out a Decade of Practical Actions for the Rational Use of Water Resources in Central Asia and regular Water Weeks in the countries of the region.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev once again invited the leaders of neighboring countries to participate in the World Water Forum, to be held in September in Samarkand.
Mark Smith, congratulating Uzbekistan on assuming the chairmanship of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea for the period 2027-2029, noted that the International Water Management Institute would support the country during this period and stressed its readiness to assist with water-saving technologies and digitalization.
IWMI representatives became familiar with the activities of the Suvchilar Maktabi School.
