President Shavkat Mirziyoyev: Imam Maturidi’s works written a thousand years ago remain relevant today
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the construction and improvement work at the Imam Maturidi Memorial Complex in Samarkand.
In accordance with a presidential resolution, Uzbekistan widely celebrated the 1,155th anniversary of Abu Mansur Maturidi’s birth last year. In connection with the anniversary, reconstruction and landscaping work began at the Imam Maturidi Complex, located on the grounds of Samarkand’s Chokardiza Cemetery.

A majestic new mosque for pilgrims now stands on the 10.2-hectare site. The mausoleums of Imam Maturidi and Burhonuddin Marginoni have been fully reconstructed. The complex also features a specialized research center for the in-depth study of the scholar’s legacy, as well as a library and museum.

The President emphasized the importance of these scientific and enlightenment institutions:
“Our goal in establishing these centers of enlightenment is to study our great ancestors’ legacy in depth and pass it on to our young people. Today, we need this knowledge more than ever. Here, many young people will have the opportunity to study the works of Imam Maturidi, written a thousand years ago. In his time, our great ancestor Imam Maturidi supported every conclusion with scholarly reasoning and compelling evidence, warning people against ignorance. Studying these works and explaining their essence and significance to our young people is more relevant today than ever before”.

The complex features a majestic entrance portal, hotels, and a large parking area. Saplings of native and foreign tree species adapted to Uzbekistan’s climate have also been planted.

The memory of the great scholars was honored, and surahs from the Quran were recited.

The President noted that visitors to the complex should gain an understanding of Imam Maturidi’s scholarly and spiritual legacy, as well as his role in the Islamic world.

“The development and improvement of such revered pilgrimage sites carry profound spiritual and enlightening significance. People should come here not only to make a pilgrimage but also to acquire knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of their identity”, the President said.
