Javokhir Sindarov: “I felt the support of all of Uzbekistan”

Today, April 15, in the final – the 14th round of the Candidates Tournament in Cyprus, Javokhir Sindarov will face China’s representative Wei Yi.

In the 13th round, Sindarov drew with Dutch chess player Anish Giri and secured an early tournament victory.

At the post-match press conference, Sindarov shared his emotions and outlined his plans.

“I am very happy. The tournament is not over yet, but the victory is already secured. During a phone conversation with my family and loved ones, I felt the support of the entire Uzbekistan. Our people's attention was felt in every round. Thank you all! The team supports me throughout the competition, helping me improve my skills and maintain psychological balance. During the tournament, some games were extremely difficult, especially the game against Fabiano Caruana and the first round.

In the first round, fortune also played its part. To succeed in a competition of this scale, a bit of luck is necessary. Now it is important to demonstrate confident play in the match for the world championship title”, said Javokhir Sindarov.
