Felipe Paullier: Samarkand now serves as a key platform for motivating young people to take practical action
Felipe Paullier, the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, who participated in the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Samarkand, shared his views on the importance of this forum:
– I am glad to visit Uzbekistan again and to take part in the IPU Global Conference.
For the United Nations Youth Office, such platforms represent a key opportunity to strengthen the principles enshrined in the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Parliaments play a crucial role in adapting international agreements at the national level, turning them into specific laws, programs and financing.
I am convinced that the conference will provide an impetus for the development of intercultural and interstate cooperation. Samarkand has become an important platform that encourages young people to take practical action.
Today, more than ever before, institutions are needed to introduce innovations, expand opportunities for young people’s direct participation in decision-making, and ensure intergenerational equity.
The Samarkand Conference combined the experience of different generations and created the conditions for the formation of effective institutions.
