Geneva hosted an event “Partnership for People: the United Nations Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region in Uzbekistan”.

On March 22, Geneva hosted an event “Partnership for People: the United Nations Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region in Uzbekistan” within the framework of the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the UNECE Region.

The event was organized by the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator for Uzbekistan with the support of the UNECE.

The event was attended by representatives of various UN structures, permanent representatives of the UN member states in Geneva, the diplomatic corps.

One of the key topics of discussion was the presentation of the goals and objectives of the Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region in Uzbekistan, which was recently created at the initiative of the government of Uzbekistan and with the support of the UN, as well as establishment and development of partnership in this context.

To date, the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan has decided to make a contribution to the Trust Fund in the amount of 6.5 million USD, of which two million dollars have already been transferred to the Trust Fund account in New York. By the end of March 2019, the first tranche of the Norwegian government in the amount of about 1.2 million dollars will be received. Japan, the European Union, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and a number of other donor countries are showing interest in participating in the fund.
