Vienna hosted the First Meeting of the Economic and Environmental Committee of the Organization for Security and Co-operation under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan.
Vienna hosted the First Meeting of the Economic and Environmental Committee of the Organization for Security and Co-operation under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by leadership of the OSCE Secretariat, Parliamentary Assembly, heads and representatives of permanent missions of 57 participating countries and 11 dialogue partners, as well as representatives of the organization's institutions.
Priorities of Albania's current chairmanship in the OSCE were considered and a work plan for Economic and Environmental Committee chaired by Uzbekistan in 2020, was adopted at the meeting.
Chairman of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Committee, Ambassador Sherzod Asadov informed participants with the draft work plan of the Committee for the current year, which was developed taking into account views of other countries and based on development priorities of Uzbekistan, outlined on January 24 by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his Address to the Oliy Majlis. It is planned that the work of the Committee will be aimed at strengthening trade-economic and investment cooperation in the OSCE area, expanding transport connectivity, sustainable tourism development, promoting innovation and digital economy, developing smart cities, fighting corruption, strengthening the role of women in society, strengthening the contribution of youth to environmental protection, effective management of ecology and water resources.
It should be emphasized that issues of tourism development and strengthening the role of youth in environmental protection will be officially discussed within the framework of the organization for the first time in the history of the OSCE, using the example of large-scale measures being implemented in Karakalpakstan to improve this region’s people’s life.
Representatives of foreign countries to the OSCE, in particular the United States, the EU, Russia, Turkey, Switzerland, Spain, France, Canada, Iceland, Vatican, all CIS countries and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, expressed their full support for EEC activity program under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan.
