Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov took part in the event with a video message.
Addressing the event, UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated, “Seventy-five years ago, amid the rubble and ruin of the Second World War, world leaders did the audacious. At its birth, the United Nations was a symbol of global unity. Today it is the epicentre. Our mission is more important than ever: preventing conflict and promoting sustainable and inclusive development; upholding human rights and advancing justice; improving living standards; protecting our planet; and ensuring the equal rights of women and men”.
UN Secretary-General noted that international cooperation is the only way to defeat the COVID‑19 pandemic, the climate emergency, rising inequality and the spreading of hatred.
António Guterres welcomed the General Assembly’s declaration of commitment to reinvigorate multilateralism and expressed hope for inclusive and insightful effort that will strengthen global governance and how the world responds to current and future challenges.
In his speech, Abdulaziz Kamilov emphasized that thanks to this universal organization, the world community has the opportunity to consolidate common efforts in solving the most pressing problems affecting the interests of both humanity and individual countries and regions. “The UN’s leadership in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences has once again demonstrated the effectiveness of close international cooperation”.
Main attention was paid to the fact that today Uzbekistan has entered a qualitatively new stage in its development, the country has achieved significant results in the implementation of an open, pragmatic and constructive foreign policy, the new course of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is being successfully implemented to strengthen political trust and mutual understanding in Central Asia.
It was emphasized that Uzbekistan continues to play an important role in consolidating the efforts of the UN member states to end the war in Afghanistan. There are real opportunities to start the peace process in this country.
In addition, attention was focused on important initiatives of Uzbekistan leadership within the UN, in particular, on development of an International Convention on the Rights of Youth and the adoption of a draft special resolution of the UN General Assembly to declare the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies.
The minister noted that Uzbekistan firmly intends to continue to contribute to the activities of the UN in order to implement the international agenda.
