Uzbekistan, Qatar Deputy Prime Ministers discuss issues of enhancing multifaceted cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov has met with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

According to Uzbekistan MIFT, the parties exchanged views on key issues on the agenda of cooperation and the prospects for deepening partnership between the two countries in the political, trade, economic, investment, transport, logistics, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

An agreement was reached to intensify negotiations to agree on an Agreement on the Encouragement and Mutual Protection of Investments between Uzbekistan and Qatar.

The parties considered the prospects for Qatar’s participation in the implementation of the Mazar-i-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar railway construction project and outlined further steps in this direction.

The sides agreed to develop partnerships in the banking and financial sector. The Qatari side expressed its readiness to assist in attracting Qatar’s banks for the introduction of Islamic banking mechanisms in Uzbekistan.

Prospects for establishing cooperation in tourism were also discussed, taking into account the construction of modern hotel complexes in major tourist cities of Uzbekistan, such as Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, and others.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold the 1st meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, as well as the 1st meeting of Uzbekistan – Qatar Business Council in the second half of this year in Doha.
