The three-year modernization process of Syrdarya TPP has been completed today. The 9th power unit of the station is connected to the unified power system, JSC Thermal Power Plants Press Service reports.
The large investment project worth $146 million was implemented jointly with the Russian company Power Machines in accordance with the Order of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of December 29, 2017 “On measures for phased modernization of Syrdarya TPP power units”.

“We are very glad that we have justified the high confidence of our compatriots and the esteemed President, and have completed a long-term investment project”, emphasizes Farkhod Abdurakhmanov, Chairman of the Board of Thermal Power Plants JSC. – Thus, along with providing the population of the country with high-quality electricity, the station will ensure the stability of production capacities.
As part of the project, 3-4 power units were modernized at the station in 2019, 5-6 in 2020 and 9-10 in 2021.

“The project has been implemented in cooperation with specialists from Power Machines, a leader in the production of energy technologies in Russia”, says the station’s Director General Bakhodir Nurdinov. – As a result of the work carried out, the capacity of each power unit was increased from 300 MW to 325 MW, the conventional fuel consumption per 1 kWh was reduced by 40 grams, as a result of which, upon completion of the three-stage modernization, a saving of 270 million cubic meters of natural gas per year will be achieved. It is envisaged that the service life of the modernized power units will be extended by at least another 20 years.

In addition, as a result of the modernization process, along with an increase in the reliability and volume of electricity supplies to consumers in the country, due to saving fuel resources, it will be possible to supply additional natural gas to the population, social facilities and sectors of the economy.
