21:14 / 2024-09-30

On September 30, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received Antonella Bassani, the Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia.

Current issues of further enhancing strategic cooperation with the World Bank Group and support by this leading international financial institution for the ongoing reform program in New Uzbekistan were considered.

Vice President Antonella Bassani conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes from World Bank President Ajay Banga to the President of Uzbekistan.

During the conversation, the current high level and fruitful nature of bilateral cooperation was noted with deep satisfaction.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has become one of the largest partners of the bank – the project portfolio has increased several times and currently exceeds $12 billion.

The World Bank supports the implementation of necessary reforms to ensure the sustainability of economic and social sectors. In July this year, the bank’s regional representative office began operating in Tashkent.

The following areas were identified as priorities for further enhancing the partnership: combating poverty, transforming state enterprises and banks, decarbonization, supporting accession to the WTO, and others.

Particular attention was paid to urbanization programs and integrated regional development, energy and irrigation infrastructure modernization, and private sector support.

Views were also exchanged on promoting regional projects.
