On September 5, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu.
The head of the authoritative sectoral structure of the United Nations system visits Tashkent as part of the International High-Level Forum on Landlocked Developing Countries on Food Security and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The high representative of the UN expressed deep gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for supporting the successful holding of the forum, which is attended by representative delegations from more than 30 countries.
During the conversation, issues of further enhancing the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and FAO in effective response to modern challenges and threats were discussed.
The fruitful results of practical interaction achieved in recent years were noted with satisfaction. Thus, the qualitative indicators of the implementation of the country cooperation program for the period up to 2025 have improved twofold.
34 projects are in the active phase of implementation. Over the past year, 7 new projects have been launched, including agriculture, school nutrition, veterinary medicine, agrochemistry, and other areas.
The importance of preparing and adopting a new five-year partnership program was emphasized.
Particular attention was paid to promising joint projects and events in the digitalization of the agro-industrial complex, the exchange of advanced knowledge and experience, and the attraction of innovations and investments in increasing the fertility of the land fund, growing and processing organic agricultural products, modernizing irrigation systems, creating modern clusters and logistics centers, and conducting research.
Views on the global and regional situation related to ensuring food security were exchanged.
