Tashkent copy of the “Divan” by Shah Ismail Khatai presented

An edition based on the Tashkent copy, in the native language, of the “Divan” of the great Azerbaijani ruler, the brilliant poet Shah Ismail Khatai, was presented as part of the 8th Baku International Book Fair, in Azerbaijan.

The Director of the Azerbaijan Cultural Center named after Heydar Aliyev Samir Abbasov noted that the authors of this creative work made a special contribution to the development of Azerbaijani literature with their work. The publication, prepared on the occasion of the 535th anniversary of the famous commander-poet, was created based on research by the center’s employees. For three years they studied the manuscripts about Azerbaijan stored at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Mr. Abbasov emphasized that Shah Ismail Khatai, who is a special personality in the history of Azerbaijani statehood, also played a big role in the development of classical literature and in bringing the Azerbaijani language to the level of the state language.

In conclusion, the compiler of the publication, Doctor of Philology Karimulla Mammadzadeh expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijan Cultural Center for the support provided in the study and publication. He also noted that the publication of the Tashkent copy of “Divan” in the native language, specially selected among the Khatai manuscripts, is of particular importance in the study of Azerbaijani literature.
