Samarkand’s history, heritage of our ancestors made a great impression on the President of South Korea

Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Moon Jae-in together with their spouses visited the historical monuments of Samarkand.
Heads of states visited the Ulugbek Observatory and Museum. Amir Temur’s favorite grandson, great scientist-astronomer and ruler Muhammad Taragay Mirzo Ulugbek made a huge contribution to development of science and culture. He built a unique observatory for the middle ages, where he studied celestial bodies with high accuracy. His “New astronomical chart Kuragoni” for many years served as an important tool for astronomical science.
It was noted that Koreans have heard about Mirzo Ulugbek, and everyone who will see his observatory and museum dedicated to him will be convinced of Ulugbek’s genius and enormous contribution to development of science.
Then, Presidents of Uzbekistan and South Korea visited the Afrosiab Museum.
Museum tells the story of three thousand years of history of Samarkand. The unique exhibits and wall paintings stored here attract the attention of tourists from all over the world, including from South Korea. The reception ceremony of the Ambassador of ancient Korean state Goguryeo by Samarkand Governor is depicted in one of the frescoes, dating from the VII century.
The President of South Korea examined drawings with special interest and noted that friendly relations between our peoples go deep into the past. He expressed confidence that traditions of friendship and cooperation will continue in the future.
An exchange ceremony of the signed Memorandum of Understanding between the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Administration of Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Korea on cooperation in cultural heritage was held with participation of heads of states.
The world-famous Registan ensemble is another hallmark of Uzbekistan, reflecting the creative potential of our ancestors. Mirzo Ulugbek, Sherdor and Tillakori majestic madrasahs are able to impress everyone with their scale and unique architecture.
President of the Republic of Korea with sincere enthusiasm got acquainted with every monument of Registan, national crafts products. The distinguished guest was informed about the history of construction and architecture of madrasah, symbolism of ornaments and meaning of inscriptions.
During the visit to Amir Temur mausoleum, guests were informed about policy of state building of our great ancestor, his military leadership talent, diplomatic relations with various countries. The history of life and activities of Sahibkiran, as well as the largest state of that time created by him, made a great impression on guests.
