Uzbekistan hosts another major international conference.

The International Partnership Initiatives Week “New Uzbekistan: Development, Innovation and Enlightenment” and the International Conference “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan – the Foundation of a New Renaissance” continue in Tashkent.

Within the framework of the week, a panel session “Expanding the scope of social services and reducing poverty – the key to sustainable development” was held.

The event, which was attended by representatives of the social services sector, heads of prestigious organizations and agencies, as well as local and foreign experts, discussed the systemic work carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years to strengthen the social protection of the population, expand the range and scale of social services, granted to citizens by the state.

The Minister of Employment and Poverty Reduction Bekhzod Musayev noted that within the framework of the administrative reforms carried out to reduce poverty and increase employment, a ministry responsible for these areas and all the necessary legal and organizational foundations have been established, and in accordance with the renewed Constitution, the state has taken over commitment to poverty reduction.

“In Uzbekistan, which is a social state, special attention is paid to supporting the population in need of social protection, reducing poverty and unemployment, supporting youth and women’s entrepreneurship, ensuring the consistent development of education, healthcare, and the spiritual and cultural sphere”, says B. Musayev. – The priority is establishing effective social insurance, preventing sharp social differentiation and social inequality in society, and creating decent living conditions for the population.

It was also noted that the cost of financing social programs increased by 2 times in relation to GDP, and the coverage of low-income families receiving benefits increased by 5 times. New benefits have been introduced for citizens caring for persons with disabilities and children with disabilities.

Uzbekistan ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, adopted the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”, which recognizes persons with disabilities as full members of our society and defines several measures to ensure equal opportunities for them in all areas of life, including education, employment, entrepreneurship, healthcare.

At the conference, it was noted that almost 300,000 houses have been built in Uzbekistan in recent years, 10 times more than in previous years. During this period, an additional 500 thousand student places were created, and their total number reached 5 million 300 thousand, another 1 million 200 thousand student places are being created.

The participants of the conference recognized that the Decree “On measures to radically improve the status of the mahalla institution in working with the problems of the population” adopted in Uzbekistan contributed to the introduction of the system of interaction “mahalla – sector – People’s reception – mahalla” in solving appeals and problems of the population. 46 tasks assigned to civil society institutions, duplicating the powers of other state bodies and organizations, and 13 functions assigned to prevention inspectors have been reduced.
