CEC registers international observers

Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Z. Nizamkhodjayev chaired the next meeting of the CEC.

The formation of an expert group to verify the correctness of drawing up signature lists submitted by political parties, accreditation of observers from international organizations and media representatives participating in the election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan were discussed.

Under Article 33 of the Electoral Code, observers from political parties, civil society institutions, as well as from other states and international organizations, carry out their activities based on mandates issued by relevant commissions. Interested organizations shall declare their observers to the election commissions at least ten days before the elections.

The Election Commission within five days after receiving the application from the interested organization issues a mandate for the observer. Observers from other states and international organizations are issued mandates by the Central Election Commission.

At the meeting, by the decision of the CEC on the accreditation of observers from international organizations at the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 3 international observers from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe were registered.

36 local media representatives were registered at the meeting by the CEC decision on the accreditation of media representatives. The number of accredited representatives of local media so far is 766, foreign – 48.
