Baku hosts a session of the SPECA Governing Council

Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov took part in the 18th session of the SPECA Governing Council in Baku.

The event, organized on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of SPECA, was attended by the heads of relevant ministries of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Hungary, the heads of the UNECE and the ESCAP.

Mr. Laziz Kudratov emphasized the importance of measures implemented within the framework of SPECA in trade, transport, energy, water resources, innovation and technology, ecology, and gender equality, as well as for developing regional partnerships.

It was proposed to expand transport connectivity and form a sustainable regional transit system using a flexible tariff policy. Implementing an action plan for digitalizing multimodal data exchange along transport corridors using UN standards was supported.

The importance of deepening cooperation in food security and agriculture, taking measures to prevent rising food prices, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals was also noted.

The steps taken in Uzbekistan to implement the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including reducing poverty and supporting gender equality to ensure the strength of families, legal protection, and well-being of women, were announced.

The event participants exchanged views and developed common positions on further strengthening connectivity and multifaceted cooperation between the region’s countries.

Following the event, the SPECA Governing Council adopted several decisions, and a work plan for 2024-2025 was approved.
