Some foreign countries are evacuating their citizens through Uzbekistan due to the deteriorating situation in neighboring Afghanistan.
Last week, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation on this issue with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The most important aspects of regional cooperation between the two countries were discussed. The main attention was paid to the situation in Afghanistan.
German citizens, residents who collaborated with German organizations, as well as Afghans in need of help are being evacuated from Afghanistan through Uzbekistan. Germany expressed gratitude to Uzbekistan for the assistance provided.
In connection with the continuing difficult situation in neighboring Afghanistan, in response to requests from foreign partners, as well as in the spirit of adherence to the principles of international humanitarian law, Uzbekistan is closely cooperating with several countries on the evacuation of their citizens from Afghanistan.
Over the past few days, almost two thousand citizens of foreign states have been evacuated through Uzbekistan, Presidential Press Secretary Sherzod Asadov informed at yesterday's briefing.
He urged journalists not to rush to cover the situation in Afghanistan. Mr. Asadov asked media representatives to rely on the protocols of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
