A National Register for Accounting Emissions to be created in Uzbekistan
21:25 / 2023-12-04

As part of their participation in the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov and CEO of Industrial Innovation Group Taryam Matar Taryam signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The document was drawn up in accordance with the National Strategy of Uzbekistan to reduce emissions and is focused on cooperation within the framework of creating a national carbon credit system.

At the meeting, Aziz Abdukhakimov noted that the creation of a register is a practical approach to solving the problem of climate change, integrating a system of regulations for existing emissions and a system for motivating projects to reduce emissions. The Uzbek side also noted that the national register is a tool for achieving this integration.

Taryam Matar Taryam emphasized that it is a great honor for the organization to contribute to creating the National Register for Accounting Emissions of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The CEO noted that establishing cooperation demonstrates the country’s commitment to sustainable development and reduction of environmental risks, which is especially important in the context of global climate challenges today.

It was noted that Uzbekistan’s emissions registry being created through the collaboration is a robust approach to accurately estimating the national environmental footprint and developing a framework for carbon capture initiatives. The registry will make a critical link by serving as a comprehensive platform on which organizations can regularly monitor emissions and accurately evaluate projects to reduce environmental risks.
