Tashkent hosted a workshop on the analysis of the current state of Aksu and Shakhrikhansai river basins. It was attended by local and foreign experts.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the representative office of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia in Uzbekistan, as well as the International Water Management Institute, is aimed at improving the provision of agricultural water and applying modern methods of rational use of water.

To carry out work on the rational use of water resources in Fergana, Andijan, Namangan, Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya and Syrdarya regions, an important role is played by international experience within the framework of the project “Sustainable Management of Water Resources in rural areas in Uzbekistan”, implemented with financial support from the European Union.

To date, the German Society for International Cooperation, as the first component of this program, carries out a number of activities within the framework of the “National policy framework for water governance and integrated water resources management”.
