The Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, paid an official visit to Uzbekistan on February 25-26.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, held talks in a contracted format, with the participation of official delegations.

In 2024, trade turnover exceeded $400 million, and the number of joint ventures reached 130. Trade houses have been opened in Karachi and Tashkent, and direct flights between Tashkent and Lahore have been resumed. 

The importance of coordinated measures to increase trade turnover to $2 billion, in line with the adopted roadmap, was emphasized.

It was noted with satisfaction that freight volumes through the multimodal corridor “Uzbekistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan” have increased fivefold in recent years. An agreement was reached to expand cargo turnover and establish a joint transport and logistics company. 

Coordinating joint efforts to advance the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project was also emphasized.

An agreement was reached to hold the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in July this year in Lahore.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, awarded the President of the International Judo Federation (IJF), Marius Vizer, the “Dustlik” (Friendship) Order, who visited Uzbekistan as part of the Grand Slam international tournament. They discussed popularizing martial arts in the country, attracting young people, especially girls, and regularly holding international competitions in the regions.

Ninety-four percent of Uzbekistan’s population supports the current reforms. 

The results of the “Listening to the Citizens of Uzbekistan” study were presented. As part of this project implemented by the World Bank, in the survey conducted in 2023, 55 percent of households reported improved conditions for earning income. Meanwhile, according to a study conducted in 2025 with nearly 1,500 families, 88 percent gave a positive assessment.

Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan may host the 2031 AFC Asian Cup. 

The football federations of the three countries have submitted a joint bid to host the Asian Cup. Uzbekistan has previously hosted various youth Asian football championships and the FIFA Futsal World Cup. Australia, China, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Kuwait, and Indonesia have also submitted their applications to the AFC to host the continent’s most prestigious football tournament.
