On January 25, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held an informal meeting with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov, at the Amirsoy resort complex in Tashkent region. The leaders exchanged views on pressing bilateral relations, international politics, and regional cooperation issues. Considering both countries’ unique geological landscapes and natural diversity, it was agreed to promote joint projects to establish resort and recreation centers in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

On January 29, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, where construction has entered its final stage, to review the ongoing construction and development efforts.

On January 30, Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid a wreath at the monument to the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, in Tashkent. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, the Presidential Administration, the government, intellectuals, and the city’s public. Verses from the Quran were recited, and prayers were offered.

The governments of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are discussing the mutual recognition of ID cards for entry into both countries. According to the proposed agreement, in the future, citizens of the two nations will be able to cross the border using only their ID cards without the need for an international passport. This initiative will facilitate citizens’ travel and strengthen mutual integration. 

For reference, Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic have already agreed to cross borders using ID cards, and this system is currently in operation. Additionally, Shavkat Mirziyoyev previously proposed the mutual recognition of national ID cards among Central Asian countries.

A baby was born on the Uzbekistan Airways flight from Tashkent to New York.

On January 28, a passenger on a flight to New York went into labor. Fortunately, an obstetrician and a surgeon were among the passengers, who provided medical assistance to the pregnant woman. She gave birth to a baby boy. Due to the situation, the flight crew carried out an emergency landing at the backup airport in Keflavik, Iceland. Upon landing, the mother and newborn were transported to a local clinic for medical care. This extraordinary event coincided with the thirty-third anniversary of the airline’s founding.
