A media tour organized for a group of media journalists in Khorezm region is directly related to measures and achievements regarding the economical use of water resources in this area.

The main attention during the media tour was paid to the analysis of the report of activities carried out on the 2nd and 3rd components of the program “Sustainable Water Resources Management in rural areas of Uzbekistan”, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme and a branch of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia in Uzbekistan.

“It should be noted that the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, acting as the national partner of the program “Sustainable Water Resources Management in rural areas of Uzbekistan”, funded by the European Union, eliminates existing problems”, says Ulugbek Islamov, Head of the 2nd component of the technical capacity-building project implemented by the UNDP. – During the media tour, journalists will become acquainted with the activities of the management of the pool of the irrigation systems of the left bank of Amudarya. According to the 2nd component of the project, they will visit Daryolik channel and the gauging stations, the Buzkala Water Consumers Association, the unified energy system of Daryolik-Arna channel pumping stations, two reclamation pumping stations and see the success achieved there.

According to the World Resources Institute, Uzbekistan ranks 25th among 164 countries in terms of water scarcity. This makes us seriously think about taking all kinds of measures for the careful use of water.

“Ecology and water is a very interesting theme for me”, says Nargis Kosimova, a participant of the event. – Therefore, my goal is to urge the general public to the careful use of water through my articles and attend such events. Uzbekistan is known to be on the list of 27 countries with a high level of water scarcity. This list also includes Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Armenia, Turkey, Italy and other countries. It became known that Uzbekistan is in the 8th place of the rating. However, the measures taken in the country for the careful use of water are becoming more and more visible every day. For example, the activities carried out within the framework of the United Nations Development Programme project in Khorezm region led to a 30 percent water saving.
