Uzbekistan’s musicians present “Tamerlano” on the historic stage at Versailles
A concert performance of George Frideric Handel’s opera “Tamerlano” was held at the Royal Opera of Versailles, organized by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation. The event featured top international soloists and creative ensembles from Uzbekistan, representing another milestone in a significant international initiative.
Jenisbek Piyazov, Juan Sancho, and Verónica Cangemi played the main roles. The National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, conducted by Alibek Kabdurakhmanov, provided the musical accompaniment, with additional participation from the Honored Choir of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

A notable highlight of the program was the famous Uzbek folk song “Yor-Yor”, performed during the concert version of the opera. It emerged as a symbol of cultural dialogue between Eastern and Western musical traditions.
Composer Kirill Richter’s musical concept merges the piece’s Baroque roots with modern musical language, maintaining respect for Handel’s original score.

The performance in Versailles marked a continuation of the project’s international tour, which initially premiered globally at Dubai Opera. It was subsequently performed at the Musikverein in Vienna and the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg. The French audience experienced a concert version of the opera based on the story of Amir Temur.
