Uzbekistan Cinematography Agency presented data on its activities in 2023. During the year, 113 film projects were created. Compared to 2017, production volume increased by almost 300 percent.

In 2023, several films were made about Uzbekistan’s tourism potential with Turkish, Russian, American, and Italian partners. Many projects in cooperation with various ministries and agencies, in particular about the historical heroes of Uzbekistan, are now at the implementation stage.

The global project “Khoja Nasreddin” is being implemented with the famous film producer and director Timur Bekmambetov. In partnership with the film company Bazelevs (Russia), the first international animation school was organized in Tashkent. An animated film from the “School of Courage” series was created about the winner of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, world champion Asila Mirzayarova.

7,920 film events were held, in which over 1,400,000 people participated.

In 2023, filmmakers of Uzbekistan took part in 24 international film festivals, and the number of international awards was 56. Moreover, 15 of them were the highest awards.

Cinema Days of 11 countries were held in Uzbekistan to develop work in the international direction further. Uzbek Film Days were held in 14 countries. On May 16-27, the national pavilion of Uzbekistan was organized in Cannes (France) as part of the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The CIS Film Organizations Association and the Association of Cinematographers of the Turkic World were established, and eight events were held with the participation of representatives of these organizations. The Uzbekistan Cinematography Agency was elected to chair both international structures.

Notably, more than 300 filmmakers from 52 countries took part in the XV Tashkent International Film Festival “Pearl of the Silk Road”, held from September 29 to October 2. More than 10 memoranda on implementing film projects were signed in cooperation with them.

During the year, together with the Euronews TV channel, more than 500 newsreels about the events in New Uzbekistan were shown. Last year, cooperation was established with CNN, together with which 30 newsreels about Uzbekistan were prepared, and a 30-minute documentary “Spirit of Samarkand” was created.
