The first in the history of bilateral relations, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Montenegro with residence in Budapest, Oybek Shahavdinov, presented his credentials to the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović. This event has become a landmark in the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation and identified steps to bring the bilateral partnership to a qualitatively new level. President Jakov Milatović congratulated the people of Uzbekistan on their success in socio-economic development, wished the country peace and prosperity, and noted the importance of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s initiatives in reforms and international cooperation.

The President of Montenegro stressed the significant potential for cooperation between states, especially in trade-economic, investment, and cultural spheres. He focused on creating favorable conditions for humanitarian and tourist exchanges, which, in his opinion, will strengthen mutually beneficial partnership.

Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Montenegro were established on December 19, 2006. Mr. Shahavdinov became the first Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Slovenia and Croatia and was appointed Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Hungary in March 2024.
