Uzbekistan is expected to join the International Metric Convention.

Representatives of 17 countries signed the International Metric Convention during a diplomatic conference in Paris in 1875. To date, 64 countries have joined the Convention, including Türkiye, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, China, Korea, and Japan. An additional 37 countries, including Uzbekistan, participate as associate members.

Uzbekistan’s accession to this Convention will enhance its trade and economic potential and accelerate its efforts to obtain membership in the World Trade Organization. International cooperation in metrology, an integral part of global trade, including the export-import sector, will significantly expand, and existing technical barriers in this area will be reduced.

At a meeting of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan’s faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the draft Law “On the Accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the International Metric Convention (Paris, May 20, 1875, with amendments and additions of October 17, 1907, October 11, 1913, and October 6, 1921)” was reviewed.

Deputies shared their views on the essential aspects and benefits of Uzbekistan’s accession to the International Metric Convention. It was noted that joining the Convention would help ensure international recognition of measurement results conducted in the country and enhance trade and export potential.
