In 2024-2025, Uzbekistan will chair the Interstate Council on Space of the CIS member states. This decision was made at the Fifth Meeting of the Council, in Tashkent.
The proposal to elect Shukhrat Kadirov as Director of the Agency for Space Research and Technology under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekspace) was voiced by Mikhail Myskin, Director of the Economic Cooperation Department of the CIS Executive Committee. The meeting participants unanimously supported his candidacy.
According to established practice, each CIS country, in alphabetical order, takes over the council’s chairmanship in turn. In 2023-2024, Tajikistan played this role.
Shukhrat Kadirov proposed raising cooperation in space education to a new level and initiating joint projects to improve the qualifications of young specialists. He also noted that the Council faces ambitious tasks in developing space activities, coordinating efforts within the UN, and deepening cooperation in space technologies.
