According to information from the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, an event held on this occasion was attended by members of the sporting delegation of Uzbekistan, representatives from the organizing committee of the Olympic Games, the administration of the city of Rio de Janeiro and mass media.

At the festive event, the mayor of the Olympic Village, Brazilian national and basketball world champion, Janeth dos Santos Arcain, congratulated the sporting delegation of Uzbekistan participating in the XXXI summer Olympic Games and wished them good luck in the upcoming competitions.

“The event devoted to the hoisting of our state’s flag was a bright event,” says a taekwondo world champion, Dmitriy Shokin.

“Today’s event further strengthened our feeling of pride in our free and prosperous Motherland. In this biggest sporting competition in a period of four years, we are going to show that young people of Uzbekistan are second to none. Our goal is to raise our country’s prestige in the XXXI summer Olympic Games and see in the greatest and dearest holiday – the 25th anniversary of our Motherland with a decent gift,” says a medal winner of a Greko-Roman wrestling world championship. Sportsmen of Uzbekistan will be defending the honour of their Motherland in the Olympic Games in such sports as rowing, rhythmic gymnastics, canoeing, boxing, judo, athletics, weightlifting, artistic gymnastics, table tennis, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, trampoline gymnastics, shooting, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.
