Uzbekistan reaffirms its commitment to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty
Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bobur Usmanov, participated in a high-level meeting in Ashgabat to mark the 30th anniversary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), organized by the Turkmenistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the event, the participants discussed the efforts of Central Asian countries in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, the strengthening of regional cooperation within the framework of the CTBT and other international control mechanisms, and prospects for universalizing the Treaty and enhancing the effectiveness of its implementation.
Representatives of the countries in the region reaffirmed their commitment to the goals of the CTBT and to international efforts toward nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. It was noted that Central Asia is a successful example of regional cooperation in the field of nuclear security.
During the event, information was shared about Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen the disarmament and non-proliferation regime. This includes our country’s leading role in creating the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone, the first such zone in the Northern Hemisphere.
