Uzbekistan reaches final stage of WTO accession negotiations

Uzbekistan has completed negotiations on market access with 33 of the 34 member states of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This was reported by the President’s Representative on WTO issues Azizbek Urunov on his LinkedIn page.

According to him, 2025 marked a decisive stage in the country’s WTO accession process, with a focus on achieving concrete, practical results. During the negotiation process, more than 40 rounds of consultations were held, two meetings of the Working Party on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO were held, and responses were provided to more than 200 written questions from the organization’s member states.

Agreements have been reached with major trading partners, including the European Union, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, and Australia. Only one bilateral dialogue remains to be completed – with Taiwan.

In 2025, high-level multilateral cooperation also intensified. Representatives of Uzbekistan met with the WTO Director-General and participated in key international events in New York, Washington, and Geneva. In addition, three international conferences on the country’s economic reforms were held.

As part of aligning national legislation with WTO requirements, 30 regulatory legal acts were adopted during the year.

The priority tasks for 2026 include completing the remaining bilateral negotiations, finalizing the multilateral negotiation process and the working party report, fully harmonizing legislation, and completing Uzbekistan’s WTO accession.

It is emphasized that the results achieved were made possible by the consistent support of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and testify to the country’s commitment to the principles of openness, transparency, and a rules-based international trading system.
