Uzbekistan presents the concept of a nuclear city at Global HackAtom 2026
The Global HackAtom Student Championship Final was held in Yekaterinburg as part of the International Festival of Youth 2026, with support from the Rosatom State Corporation.
More than 80 winners from the national stages of 15 countries participated in the event.
The final’s theme focused on shaping the future vision of nuclear cities. Participants had to develop a concept for a fully developed coastal city with a development perspective through 2050. They considered the location’s seismic activity, energy supply, economy, infrastructure, and social environment. Over 20 hours, student teams developed projects and prepared presentations.
The Synthesis team from Uzbekistan proposed a model for the city based on the multipurpose use of nuclear power plant capabilities. According to the concept, the station provides the population with electricity and heat and serves as an energy source for desalination of seawater and for the development of nuclear medicine and industrial production.
Russia’s Beyond the Mind team, which presented the nuclear city project “Elektromorsk”, took first place. The University of Zululand team from South Africa came second with a concept for a comprehensive nuclear city in southeastern Africa. Kyrgyzstan’s Nuclear Nomad team, which developed the concept of an autonomous floating nuclear city, took third place.
The Synthesis team from Uzbekistan also demonstrated an approach aimed at making extensive use of the potential of nuclear power plants, efficiently utilizing energy resources, and integrating different urban systems into a single infrastructure.
