On October 3, 2019, the Minister for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shukhrat Sadikov met with General Manager at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) Nobuyuki Kawabata, in Tokyo.

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation is a part of Sumitomo and Mitsui groups and is one of Japan's largest banks. Its headquarters is located in Tokyo.

New investment projects with major Japanese companies and expanding cooperation were discussed at the event. The sides expressed readiness to mobilize all efforts for development of relations between Uzbekistan and Japan in information technology.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on conducting appropriate activities for expanding cooperation.
