On May 7, the Asian Individual Chess Championships for Men and Women begin in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.

More than 260 talented chess players from 34 countries across the continent are participating in the championships. 12 male and 15 female players represent Uzbekistan.

Among the leading male participants from Uzbekistan are Nodirbek Yakubboyev, Shamsiddin Vokhidov, Mukhiddin Madaminov, Muhammadzokhid Suyarov, and Khumoyun Bekmuratov. On the women’s side, Afruza Khamdamova, Guldona Karimova, Umida Omonova, and Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova are among our top contenders.

The continental championships consist of nine rounds and will conclude on May 16. The top ten male players and the top two female players based on tournament results in Al Ain will earn the right to compete in the World Cup.
