
The discussions with the leadership of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) on combating climate change took place in Samarkand as part of the Climate Forum.
The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, Ilhom Norqulov, and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Anacláudia Rossbach. The sides exchanged views on current issues and identified areas of potential cooperation.
During the negotiations, special attention was paid to achieving sustainable development in the country’s regions and urban environment, as well as the development of master plans and the rational management of urbanization processes. Practical solutions to increase the resilience of cities to climate change were also discussed.
The Ministry expressed interest in attracting expert and technical assistance from UN-Habitat in the implementation of national sustainable development strategies. The representatives of the organization confirmed their readiness for active cooperation and offered several initiatives, including joint trainings and analytical support.
UN-Habitat announced its intention to send, at the request of the Ministry, relevant specialists in regional planning and development, as well as to begin preliminary work on practical measures and facilities.
These negotiations are of great importance for strengthening bilateral partnerships and aligning national and international efforts in addressing global climate challenges.
