The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) and the UK’s National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) have signed a Memorandum of Strategic Partnership to implement the global macroeconomic model NiGEM.

CERR Director Obid Khakimov and NIESR Chief Financial Officer Yetunde Aroloye signed the document in London.

CERR Director Obid Khakimov emphasized that cooperation with NIESR will provide access to advanced analytical tools:

“The NiGEM model will enable us to conduct a deeper analysis of global economic trends and their impact on the national economy, which, in turn, will improve the quality of decision-making”.

In turn, NIESR Associate Research Director for Model Development Ian Hurst expressed confidence that the partnership would strengthen Uzbekistan’s analytical capabilities and lay the foundation for long-term cooperation in economic research.

Discussing plans, the parties noted that the first stage of cooperation will focus on integrating national macroeconomic data into the model, allowing for the consideration of Uzbekistan’s economic specifics. Subsequently, the model will be calibrated and adjusted to match national economic conditions.
