Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea expand cooperation on cancer prevention
An international professional development program held in major South Korean cities – Seoul, Goyang, Osong, and Wonju – focuses on key topics such as cervical cancer screening systems, human papillomavirus diagnosis methods, laboratory quality control, epidemiological research techniques, and the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare.
Experts from the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Oncology and Radiology are participating in the program, organized by the National Cancer Center of Korea and the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare.
During the professional development program, Uzbek specialists met with a delegation led by Professor Han-Kwang Yang, MD, PhD, President of the National Cancer Center of Korea.
The parties discussed expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea in oncology. Key points included enhancing cancer screening programs, developing and digitalizing the National Cancer Registry, and engaging in joint scientific research.

During the program, the Uzbekistan delegation learned about the advanced research and clinical facilities at Korea’s National Cancer Center, with a particular focus on the operations of Asia’s largest biobank.
Additionally, the delegation closely studied how healthcare policies are formed using disease registration, epidemiological tracking, and data analysis within South Korea’s National Cancer Registry system.
The specialists visited an experimental research center that collaborates with Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, where they observed how preclinical research is conducted to evaluate the safety of new medicines and innovative treatment approaches.
