Collaboration between Uzbekistan and Italy is developing. In June 2023, the President of Uzbekistan made an official visit to Italy, and in November, the President of the Italian Republic visited Uzbekistan.

During these high-level meetings, the focus was on further enhancing the bilateral strategic partnership in various areas. Notably, the Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent was highlighted as a shining example of successful collaboration in education.

The growing interest in learning the Italian language in Uzbekistan was emphasized with great satisfaction. A unanimous opinion was expressed on the importance of training teachers of the Italian language and gradually introducing its study in schools in Uzbekistan.

The tangible results of this collaborative effort are evident in the higher education system, particularly in the study of the Italian language. The achievements in this area serve as a testament to the growing interest and commitment to learning Italian in Uzbekistan.

At the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, along with French, Spanish, German, and other languages, qualified teachers teach students Italian.

Italian language teacher Muborak Madrakhimova said that mentors do not limit themselves only to teaching the language but also pay attention to developing students’ ability to read works of art in this language and convey all their beauty and charm.

The University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a festive event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of teaching Italian at this higher education institution.

The Rector of the university, Sodiq Safoyev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Uzbekistan Agostino Pinna and the Rector of the Italian University of Perugia Valerio De Cesaris.

At the meeting, the parties recognized that practical multifaceted cooperation contributes to developing countries and forming friendly ties between people. The actions of the heads of Uzbekistan and Italy and the agreements reached at the highest level play a special role in this.

Participants of the event were impressed by poems, songs, and excerpts from opera works performed in Italian.

Students performed a stage performance based on William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Among the event participants were guests from Italy and representatives of the Embassy of this country in Uzbekistan.

“The event was well organized, and the students’ performances were awe-inspiring. I didn’t expect everything to be at such a high level”, said Valerio De Cesaris, Rector of the University of Perugia. “I was impressed by the Uzbek youth’s knowledge of the Italian language and the talented performance of works by famous Italian poets and writers. We are pleased to cooperate in education, and especially in language learning. I hope it will expand. We have agreements for student exchange and advanced training and are working to support these projects. It is gratifying that our cooperation strengthens friendship between our peoples”.

Active participants and guests were given certificates of honor following the event.
