Uzbekistan and China join efforts to combat desertification and soil salinization
The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov met with members of the delegation led by Fu Gao, Head of the Academic Committee of the Institute of Microbiology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Li Xiaoming, Vice President of Zhejiang University.
Currently, together with the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, work is successfully underway to restore soil fertility in the Aral Sea region.
The main directions include cultivating salt-tolerant crops and introducing advanced irrigation technologies in cotton production.
Issues discussed at the meeting included combating soil salinization and desertification, developing water-saving technologies, creating drought-resistant plant varieties, increasing soil fertility, and the prospects for joint projects in remote monitoring and agricultural biotechnologies.
