A press conference was held in Tashkent by Alexander Ogorodnikov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Uzbekistan. The primary focus was on key aspects of cooperation between Belarus and Uzbekistan, particularly in the trade and economic sphere.
According to Alexander Ogorodnikov, the dynamics of mutual trade show steady growth. For example, by the end of 2024, trade turnover between the two countries increased by more than 10 percent. “The goal set by the leaders of our countries – to bring trade volumes to one billion dollars – is becoming increasingly realistic. If the current growth rates are maintained, we will be able to reach this milestone by 2030-2031”, the diplomat noted.
Despite differences in statistical data – the Belarusian side estimates the trade turnover at $630 million, while the Uzbek side puts it at 714 million – both states are united on the main point: cooperation is developing steadily and covering an increasing number of areas.
Among the priority projects for 2025 are launching an assembly line for Belarusian tractors and producing cable products in Uzbekistan. The Ambassador emphasized the demand for Belarusian agricultural machinery: “These machines are known for their reliability, ease of use, and wide range of applications – from the agricultural sector to municipal services”.
Another key topic was the promotion of Belarusian exports through a logistics hub in Termez, from which there are plans to access third-country markets, particularly Afghanistan. As the Ambassador noted, such initiatives expand the geography of trade and contribute to integration into international supply chains.
Alexander Ogorodnikov also highlighted the importance of deepening engagement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), noting Uzbekistan’s positive role as an observer. “We are convinced that further cooperation with the EAEU will bring tangible benefits to Uzbekistan – both in terms of access to new markets and in promoting national products”, the Ambassador concluded.
