Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States attended the 26th Annual International Law and Religion Symposium, organized by the BYU International Center for Law and Religion Studies in Provo, Utah.

At the invitation of the President of Brigham Young University (BYU) Kevin J Worthen, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States attended the 26th Annual International Law and Religion Symposium, organized by the BYU International Center for Law and Religion Studies in Provo, Utah.

In his speech, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan presented the achievements of Uzbekistan in ensuring religious freedoms, liberalizing legislation regarding religious organizations, countering radicalism, expanding institutional mechanisms for promoting enlightened Islam, as well as international initiatives of the country in this area.

The symposium was attended by up to 150 socio-political and religious figures, experts, judges, diplomats, representatives of universities, NGOs and the media from 50 countries of Western and Eastern Europe, Central and South Asia, Australia and New Zealand, South and North America, Africa.

During the sessions, issues of ensuring religious freedoms in the context of protecting fundamental rights and human dignity were discussed. A comparative review of the main aspects of correlation of religion, laws, state regulation and security measures, the practice of ensuring freedom of religion in countries in various political, social and cultural contexts, measures to prevent religious persecution and the role of law enforcement agencies and justice in this process was carried out.
