According to our Correspondent from Baku, 1314 candidates for deputies fought for seats in the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan. They also included 25 candidates elected by deputies in the 2015 parliamentary elections. The Election Commission registered 246 candidates from political parties, 11 candidates from initiative groups, 1068 candidates on their own initiative.

At the press conference on the election results, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan, Mazahir Panahov, noted that the election process should be streamlined in accordance with the Electoral Code. However, there were cases of inadequate compliance with the provisions indicated in the Code during the campaigning on social networks.

According to the CEC Chairman, the elections were held at 5573 polling stations in 125 constituencies. 10 constituencies were created for citizens living abroad.

2431 candidates applied for participation in the parliamentary elections. 321 out of 1637 registered candidates withdrew their candidacy. The names of two candidates were also excluded.

The election process to the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan was attended by 883 observers from 58 countries, as well as 77790 local observers.

According to the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, 199 representatives of 132 mass media from 47 countries covered the election process. Among them are journalists from the United States, Mexico, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Turkey, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and other countries.
