Rector of Samarkand State University, scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan, member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Rustam Kholmurodov signed a long-term agreement on strategic cooperation with the President of Japan’s Tottori University, Professor Hiromitsu Nakajima.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Japan Mukhsinkhuja Abdurakhmanov took part in the opening ceremony.
The main activity of this Representative Office will be focused on the transfer, testing and widespread introduction in Uzbekistan of new innovative developments and knowledge of scientists from Tottori University on the development of agriculture in arid regions.
According to Samarkand State University, the Representative Office of Tottori University in SamSU will implement developments on the efficient use of arid zones, which occupy more than 50 percent of the territory of Uzbekistan, the development of animal husbandry in these territories, ensuring food security and increasing through this the standard of living of the population. The Arid Lands Research Center of Tottori University and its leading scientists will be directly involved in the implementation of the goals and objectives set for this office. This international center is the only one of its kind in Japan and has received worldwide recognition for the effective use of arid zones on a scientific basis, in particular, the development of agriculture in saline and dry regions.
