The image of Uzbekistan through the eyes of an Arab photographer

A solo exhibition titled “Uzbekistan through the Eyes of an Arab Photographer” by Jordanian photographer Abdulrahman Walid Sawalha has opened at the Tashkent House of Photography in Tashkent.

The exhibition, organized by the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, the Creative Union of Artists of Uzbekistan, and the Tashkent House of Photography, aims to deepen cultural and spiritual ties between the Uzbek and Arab peoples by uniting their rich, centuries-old heritage.

The display includes more than 100 photographs taken by the artist in recent years. The images capture the unique appearance of Uzbekistan, the spirit of New Uzbekistan, its architectural heritage, and the beauty of nature. These works convey the kindness and sincerity of the Uzbek people, as well as the breath of its ancient history. Visitors see the country through the eyes of a representative of another culture.

The photo series “Muynak: The Tragedy of the Aral Sea”, presented at the exhibition, prompts serious reflection on our attitude toward nature. The ship graveyard in the dried seabed symbolizes a painful conflict between the past and the present.

Abdulrahman Walid Sawalha studied art and photography at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. He was recognized as one of the 100 best photographers in the world by 35Awards and received high praise for his work in urban and landscape photography. In 2019, the artist moved to Tashkent.

“For a photographer, Uzbekistan is a true treasure trove. Here I am inspired by the richness of colors and the warmth of the people. This exhibition is an expression of my deep respect and love for the Uzbek people”, he noted.

The exhibition will run until February 8.
