33 years ago, on November 18, 1991, the Law “On the State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was adopted.

This law defines the State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan as a symbol of the country’s state sovereignty and represents the country in the international arena.

At the sight of the flag, patriotism, hope, and trust awaken in the soul of every compatriot, an involuntary trepidation from the fact that behind it stands a great and mighty support – the native Fatherland. This is especially acutely felt by those who live abroad. Its colors and symbols are close to everyone with their vitality and unite such concepts as peace, renewal, and resilience.

In 2023, the Law “On introducing amendments and addenda to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was adopted.

Today, the country’s status is increasingly growing on the world stage, especially with great victories in culture, sports, and science. The State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been raised high worldwide. Taking this into account, the law expanded the possibilities for its use, in particular, at sports competitions, physical culture and mass events, cultural and other events, official international events, ceremonial events, family holidays, celebrations of memorable dates, funerals of public and government figures, military personnel and in other cases, while ensuring respect for it. 

Also, to expand the use of the State Flag, citizens can hang it in public places, buildings, and other objects, as well as areas of residence or work, adjacent territories, and vehicle cabins. Designations representing the image of the State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan can be used on clothing and insignia of persons in military or other state service. When preparing sportswear for international sports competitions and championships of the Republic of Uzbekistan, designations representing the image of the State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan can be used. 

In addition, the law reflects that it is prohibited to allow a disrespectful attitude towards the State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to use the State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan and symbols representing its image in violation of the rules of ethics and rules of conduct in society or in any other way considered their desecration.

The law creates the basis and opportunities for the use of the State Flag by the population, especially young people, further strengthening patriotic feelings.
