On November 19, 2024, the first session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan began in Tashkent.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is attending it.

The National Anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan was played.

The session was opened by Z. Nizomkhodjayev, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, in accordance with the Election Code.

The process of forming the Senate of the Oliy Majlis was carried out based on democratic principles such as openness and transparency, in accordance with the requirements of the renewed Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the improved national electoral legislation.

The senators were elected by secret ballot at joint sessions of deputies of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Councils of regions, the city of Tashkent, districts, and towns for the election of members of the upper house of the country’s parliament.

Nine upper house members were appointed by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on November 14, 2024.

On November 16 this year, the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan registered all members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Heads of state authorities and administration and foreign and local media representatives are attending the meeting.
