Baku hosts a Global Summit of Religious Leaders as part of the UN Climate Change Conference.

It is attended by the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Muzaffar Komilov, Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan Mufti Sheikh Nuriddin Khaliqnazar and First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs Davronbek Maksudov.

A greeting from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was read to the summit participants, and a video message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres was shown.

Almost 300 government representatives, heads of international organizations, statesmen, famous religious figures, scientists, and experts from more than 60 countries are among the event participants, which is being held under the slogan “World Religions for a Green Planet”.

On the first day, the causes and consequences of global climate change, issues of nature conservation, and prevention of environmental problems were discussed. Proposals were made on the tasks facing representatives of all religious faiths in this direction.

The head of the Uzbekistan delegation, M. Komilov, made a report and informed about the efforts and unique experience of the country to reduce the adverse effects of climate change, rational use of natural resources, and further enrichment of biological diversity in the country and the region. It was noted that within the framework of the national project “Green Space”, implemented on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, 200 million seedlings are planted every year, and gardens are laid out.

The summit participants highly appreciated the experience and initiatives of Uzbekistan to prevent climate change and expand green areas.
