The elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Local Councils of People’s Deputies held on October 27 were held with the active participation of citizens in accordance with international standards and norms, national electoral legislation and the principles of openness, transparency, and fairness outlined in it.

This year, in accordance with the renewed Constitution and national electoral legislation, parliamentary elections were held based on a mixed majoritarian-proportional electoral system for the first time in the country’s history. Elections of deputies to parliament and local Councils began early in the morning. Citizens actively fulfilled their civic duty at 11,028 polling stations. Our compatriots also exercised their right to vote at 57 polling stations formed at diplomatic and consular offices of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 40 foreign countries.

The electronic voter list in the automated election process management system included 19 million 944 thousand 859 voters. The number of voters abroad was 165 thousand 631 people. 

In the elections held under the motto “My choice is a prosperous Motherland!”, candidates nominated by five political parties operating in the country competed – the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the “Milliy Tiklanish” Democratic Party, the Ecological Party, the People’s Democratic Party, and the Social Democratic Party “Adolat”. For the first time in the history of the country, 100 percent of candidates were nominated by political parties for parliamentary seats at all levels: 875 to the Legislative Chamber, 3 thousand 625 to the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, 24 thousand 850 to the regional and Tashkent city Councils, and 24 thousand 850 to the district and city Councils of People’s Deputies.

In the early elections held on October 16-23, 1 million 15 thousand 948 voters took part in the country, and 132 thousand 667 voters abroad.

For the first time in the country’s history, electronic voting was organized and experimentally conducted at individual polling stations in the city of Tashkent. Video cameras were installed at polling stations in districts and cities in accordance with the relevant technical requirements to broadcast the election process in real time.

The elections held in the country based on the new system were observed by more than 850 foreign and international observers who arrived in the country. The process was also monitored by 55 thousand observers from political parties and more than 10 thousand from civil society institutions, and more than a thousand representatives of local and foreign media who had passed accreditation actively covered the process. 

At a briefing with the participation of Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Bakhrom Kuchkarov, it was noted that as of 17:00, 14 million 264 thousand 994 voters had taken part in the vote in the country as a whole, which amounted to 71.52 percent of the total number of voters. In accordance with the law, elections are considered valid if 33 percent of the total number of voters took part in the vote. Therefore, elections in Uzbekistan are recognized as valid.

The final election results will be announced on October 28, 2024.
