A regular meeting of Surkhandarya region’s territorial election commission on holding elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and local councils of People’s Deputies took place.

The issue of approving the composition of precinct election commissions was considered at the meeting, chaired by Zebiniso Alimardonova.

According to articles 20 and 23 of the Election Code, as well as the statute “On Precinct Election Commissions”, approved by the resolution of the Central Election Commission No. 1337 of June 5, 2024, there are 865 polling stations in the region, which included 9,451 people. The candidacies of the commission members were discussed at meetings of district and city Councils of People’s Deputies and recommended for approval by territorial election commissions through the “E-saylov” system. Almost half are women, and 84 percent have participated in previous elections.

In the election commissions, employees of the public education sector are 53 percent, and 47 percent are representatives of other government departments, non-governmental organizations, and self-government bodies.

It is expected that over 1.6 million voters will vote in the elections.
