On November 24-28, Bukhara, Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regional theaters of musical drama will show the German silent film “The Doll”.

On November 24-28, Bukhara regional theater of musical drama, Kashkadarya regional theater of musical drama and Surkhandarya regional theater of musical drama will show the German silent film “The Doll”.

The event is organized by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Uzbekistan with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The film will be accompanied by music of “Sogdiana” Uzbek folk instruments chamber orchestra. This composition was rewritten for the orchestra by its conductor and artistic director, professor Firuza Abdurakhimova.

The Doll (German: Die Puppe) is a 1919 German romantic fantasy comedy film directed by Ernst Lubitsch. The film will be shown with a translation into Uzbek. 

The film tells about the Baron of Chanterelle, who wants to preserve his family line, and forces his timid nephew Lancelot to choose one of the village maidens to wed. Lancelot flees to a monastery to escape the forty eager maidens. When the gluttonous monks discover that the Baron is offering a large sum for the marriage, they suggest Lancelot marry a mechanical doll instead. The doll maker has just finished making a replica of his daughter Ossi, but his assistant accidentally breaks it and convinces the real girl to mimic the doll. Lancelot buys her, thinking she is a doll, and takes her back to the monastery, where they are wed.
